Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, the love and grace of God has gathered us here to mark the holy, silent night when our savior was born. Certain days and nights are indeed special in our Christian life and gift of divine faith. Tonight is surely a special night when the whole world is keeping vigil in anticipation of the joyful birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As expected, our readings all focused on this mystery of our faith. Isaiah a prominent advent figure, said, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light… You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing. For a child is born to us, a son is given us; …They named him Wonder-Counselor, God Hero, Father forever, prince of peace.” There are so many lessons we can take from this prophecy of Isaiah. We are the people that walked in darkness of sin. But the good news is that we have seen a great light, our new born savior is the great light who has come out of love to cast away every form of darkness in our lives. This transformation from darkness to light brings great joy and peace to us, our families and the world. These spiritual gifts are echoed in the gospel as well. “While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in a swaddling cloth and laid him in a manger.” Ensure you visit the manger in the Church. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people. For today in the city of David, a savior has been born for you who is Christ the Lord.” “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace…” Dear friends, the birth of Christ our savior is a source of great joy and peace. This great joy and divine peace are so powerful that they ought to bring mercy, forgiveness and reconciliation in every home, community and nation where there is hatred and conflict. Beloved, the grace of God has appeared, saving all and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly and devoutly…eager to do what is good.
Dear friends, the Christ whose birth we are anticipating, is the source of great joy, divine peace, divine and saving grace, divine light, justice, goodness and hope. I invite you to open your hearts to receive the divine light of our new born Savior to cast away every darkness of sin. Open your hearts to receive and welcome the joy and peace of the new born child into your life. The light, joy and peace of our Savior Jesus Christ should be generously shared with all members of families, neighbors and all we encounter.
