The Church specifies that at this time I can give a “brief” homily - I thought my homilies were already pretty brief but here we go, a brief-er homily.
There is a new book out from Archbishop Charles Chaput entitled, “Things Worth Dying For: Thoughts on a Life Worth Living” - I haven’t received my copy yet, but I am looking forward to it.
The title by itself has me captivated, especially in the light of this last year, as we have had to put so many things on hold, so much was taken away from us, it has been the longest and most penitential Lent ever!
But during that, we have had to take a number of calculated risks, to do the things we needed to do, despite the virus, life had to go on - there are always things worth dying for, worth taking the risk on, that was true before covid. This year has clarified some of those things for us.
But have you ever thought that the one thing worth Jesus dying for is you? We are worth dying for, Jesus died for the forgiveness of our sins, for our salvation.
It is pretty amazing if you think about it. Don’t let His death be in vain. Open your heart to His mercy, His love and forgiveness. Put aside fear and anxiety. Our life is worth living to the full, specifically because Jesus has died for us.
