It's the last blog of ordinary time! And what a reading.
Gosh, the imagery in Revelation is so powerful. God did not mess around when He gave John this vision.
Honestly, the thing that stuck out to me the most as I read this reading was this: "All the dead were judged according to their deeds."
What we do matters! What. We. Do. Matters.
Words and good intentions don't mean anything if we're not seeking to make the Kingdom of God a reality on earth. How do we care for the poor? How do we clothe the naked, feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty? How do we go out and encounter Jesus in others and minister to His needs there?
How are we seeking to become more Christ-like ourselves? Are we praying regularly? Trying to rid ourselves from sin? Seeking to detatch ourselves from material possessions? Striving to grow in love for all?
At the close of this Church year, I invite you to spend time today or tomorrow doing an examination of conscience. Start your "New Years Resolution" now, at the advent of this new Church year. Make a resolution to grow in a specific way in love of God and love of neighbor. And then do it!
