"Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy."
Do you consider God trustworthy?
I had a good conversation with friends the other night about God's trustworthiness. I think most of the time we can easily profess with our lips that God is trustworthy. Of course He is! He's God!
But when it comes down to it, do we behave like we trust God? Are we willing to make sacrifices knowing with faith and trust that He will honor them?
For me, very often the answer is no. I see the job before me and I think, "It's too much." Anxiety settles in and I feel the constant need to do, do, do before everything caves in around me.
When God meets you with a challenge, how do you respond? Do you recognize His hand in your difficulty? Do you rely on His strength rather than your own? Or do you just strive to overcome so that you don't fail?
This difference can be very subtle. Honestly, I think many of us don't even know how to rely on the Lord in our difficulties. We might say, "Pray like everything relies on God, but work like everything relies on you," and then all of a sudden we're relying on ourselves.
How do we overcome this tendency and increase our real and active trust in the Lord? I recommend starting with the
Litany of Trust. It's a beautiful prayer written by the Sisters of Life that's so very moving. There's so much to say, but I really just encourage you to go read it, and after you read it, pray it. Every day.
