Jos 24:1-2,15-17,18a, Ps 34. Eph 5:21-32, Jn 6:60-69 Joshua the servant of the Lord gathered the people of Israel, elders and leaders and urged them saying, “Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve him completely and sincerely… if it does not, please you to serve the Lord decide today whom you will serve, the gods your fathers served…As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua is encouraging the people of Israel to serve the one true God, maker of heaven and earth. He is inviting and urging them to stop serving and worshiping false gods. He is calling them to fidelity and worship of the Lord completely and sincerely. To worship and serve the Lord with their whole heart, mind and strength. With the totality of the lives. What is my relation with the Lord. How do I worship and serve him. To worship and serve the Lord is not just coming to Church, I serve and worship the Lord in the way I live my personal life, my family life, the values I practice, how I conduct my financial life, gift from God. My work or business. Do I include the Lord in my financial life, planning and utilization of my financial blessings/gifts. Joshua spoke of his household. Are all members of my household worshiping and serving the Lord? In the second reading, St. Paul speaks to husbands and wives to be loyal to one another the Church is loyal to Christ. That they should live in Love as Christ loved us, the Church, his body. To be specific, St. Paul said, “Husbands love your wives even as Christ loved the Church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her… that she might be holy. ….so, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife, loves himself. Why? because the two shall become on flesh…. This is a great mystery.” Today we come to the conclusion of the teaching of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the bread of life that we must eat to have life in him. Many found this teaching too hard including some of his disciples and they stopped following him. Jesus reminded them: “The words I have spoken to you are Spirit. But there are some of you who do not believe.” When Jeus said, Spirit, he means that, his teaching comes from the Holy Spirit, they are spiritual, divine teaching, not human or natural but supernature and requires faith/believe, it’s said only 30% of Catholics believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, a staggering 70% don’t believe. I ask you where do you belong? Like Peter let us dare to say, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words od eternal life, we have come to believe and are convinced the you are Holy One of God.” Let us serve the Lord, the true God. Let’s love one another as Christ has loved us, especially in marriage for sanctity, peace and unity. Let’s believe in Jesus the bread of life, the one who have the words of eternal life. The Holy One of God.
