I’ve been thinking and praying about what to preach about this weekend for awhile now. Our Monday night bible study has been focused on the passion of Jesus, and I’ve been reading that book, it is called No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion by Dr. Edward Sri.
I’ve been reading that book for my own understanding of course, but also thought it’d be good as homily prep for today, or maybe for Friday night, but the problem is, every page has seemingly a new insight, a worthy reflection, and the book is 213 pages. So I’ve got 213 new insights to share with you, but the Church says I can only give a brief homily today, so I’ve got to limit it to one. Amazing hook. I love it lol
It is truly amazing to hear how Jesus’ Passion, His suffering and death, lines up with the Old Testament prophecies, there are so many interesting things I could preach on, however, the page that I want to focus on is not a page at all, it’s the front cover, the primary title: No Greater Love.
There is “No Greater Love” that anyone has for us but for Jesus to lay down His life for the forgiveness of our sins. It was done entirely out of His free will, He could have escaped as He did so many times before. It wasn’t three nails that held Jesus to that cross, it was His great love for us.
How will you respond to His love? I’d encourage you to get a copy of the book and read it, but more importantly, to take some significant time in prayer, reflecting on just how much Jesus loves you, and consider what God is calling you to do next, to carry out His divine will as a response to being the recipient of “No Greater Love.”
